Sycamore class tried their hands at being electrical engineers yesterday at Imaginosity. We constructed electrical circuits using a battery, wires, play doh and a bulb. It was amazing. We then had lots of fun playing in the supermarket, the doctors, the restaurant and even driving a racing car!
We have had a wonderful week celebrating books and reading. We wrote book reviews, dressed up as book characters, took part in a parade, drew posters and did Shared Reading with adults. It was lots of fun - Sycamore class love books! Dear Parents/Guardians,
This week we will be celebrating World Book Day (Thursday 2nd March) in Powerstown E.T.N.S. with a series of in-school events all week. The main aim is to encourage children to explore the pleasure of books and reading by providing them opportunities to read books within school and also at home. We are holding the following events in school during the week that we would love your support in: Shared Reading: You are invited to come and join us for ‘Shared Reading’ events in the Sycamore class. ‘Shared Reading’ is a fun time where parents read story books to small groups of children. Books in other languages are welcomed! ‘Shared Reading’ will run at the following time: Fridays 8.30am. Dates: March 3rd 10th, 24th, 31st PLEASE confirm in advance with Elaine that you are able to attend. Dress as a book character Day Thursday 2nd March: Your child is invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character for the day! We will be having a parade in the morning around the school, dressed as our favourite characters. There are some ideas for Dress Up Day on http://www.worldbookday.com/dressing-up/ Poster Competition: Home Project Children are encouraged to enter this competition by drawing or painting a scene, setting or a character from their favourite book. This should be completed at home with parents. There will be a prize for one child from each class and a display board of the posters. We hope that everyone will get involved as much as possible in these event which promote the importance of books and reading in our lives. Thanks, Elaine As you may be aware we are aiming for our third green flag this year at Powerstown E.T. This flag comes under the theme of Water. The green team and the whole school are doing great work to raise awareness of water conservation but we would love parents to get involved too. We would appreciate it if you could fill in the quick survey below about your water use at home. It should only take a few minutes and will help towards getting our next green flag.
